Diabetes UK is running online sessions to support people across the south east with type 1 diabetes. From Tuesday October 6, a weekly online peer support group will take place on Zoom from 7pm for an hour for six weeks, facilitated by Caroline Walker, a member of the Diabetes UK team who also has type 1.
Jill Seaton, Diabetes UK’s Regional Head South East, said the sessions will be for up to twelve people but other groups would be run if there was a lot of interest. The sessions will offer participants the chance to share experiences, learn from others with the condition, and discuss issues such as food, treatment and emotional health.

Dr David Chilvers, clinical chair for Fareham and Gosport for the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Partnership of Clinical Commissioning Groups, welcomed the online groups.
The Gosport GP said: “I’ve no doubt that many patients with type 1 will find these peer support sessions invaluable, being able to speak to people who have an empathy and understanding of their own experiences.”
