The CHC team at NHS West Hampshire CCG have been promoting client engagement and co-production since 2018. The CHC Working Together Group was set up in July 2019 and one of its main aims is to encourage engagement and collaborative working in order to improve the experience of CHC clients and their representatives. Other aims include:
- Sharing knowledge and information to improve existing services and develop new services
- Ensuring people who have a direct, ‘lived experience’ of CHC are involved in service design and decision making
- Continually improving the quality of the CHC service through working closely with partners and those with experience of CHC
- Improving local people’s understanding of the CHC service.
The Working Together Group includes representation from West Hampshire CCG, organisations representing service users, carers and care providers as well as members of the public who have first-hand experience of CHC.
A key part of our Working Together group is a Co-Production Group which is responsible for looking at CHC services and identifying key areas to focus on. The group, whose members are primarily people with lived experience of CHC, meets monthly to share ideas with the objective of improving the experience of CHC clients.
For example, the group has been actively involved in the writing and design of a new CHC booklet as well as reviewing CHC information on our West Hampshire CCG website to make it easier to understand. They are also participating in CHC staff training to support a better understanding of the perspective of people who access the service.
